The short version.
Still Life: Picture Logic is published by Varun Goel ("we", "us"), which is the data controller for the limited information described below. You can reach us at boxboxtech@protonmail.com.
Your progress — which levels you have solved, any puzzle you have part-finished, and your settings — is kept on your device only, using local storage. It is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Two consequences worth knowing, because they are the questions people actually ask. If you delete the app, that progress is gone; we cannot restore it, because we never had it. If you restore your phone from an iCloud or computer backup, your progress comes back, because it is included in your device backup like any other app data.
When you first finish the tutorial, the game asks whether it may record how you play. This is optional. If you agree, we collect:
| What | Example | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Game events | The app was opened; level 12 was solved; a level was lost; a hint was used | To see which puzzles work and which ones people give up on, and whether people come back |
| A random identifier | A randomly generated ID created on your device the first time the game runs | So repeat visits can be counted as one player rather than many. It is not your Apple ID, not your advertising identifier, and is not linked to you |
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, precise or coarse location, contacts, calendar, photos, microphone or camera input, health data, payment details, or the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA). The app does not ask for any of these permissions, and does not contain advertising or third-party tracking technology.
We rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK/EU GDPR). We ask before collecting anything, we treat no answer as a no, and you may withdraw at any time. Withdrawing is as easy as giving it: one tap in Settings.
We use PostHog as our analytics provider, on their European Union hosting. PostHog processes this data on our instructions as a data processor and does not use it for their own purposes. Data is stored in the EU.
We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not combine it with data from other companies.
Event data is kept for no longer than 30 days from collection, after which it is deleted or aggregated so that individual records no longer exist. The random identifier is deleted along with the events it belongs to.
If you are in the UK, the EU, or another region with comparable law, you have the right to ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent. Exercising any of these will not affect how the game works.
You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office; in the EU it is the supervisory authority for your country.
The game is suitable for all ages and contains no advertising, no in-app purchases at the time of writing, no chat, and no user-generated content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the optional analytics described above contain nothing that identifies a person. If you believe a child's personal information has reached us, email us and we will delete it.
The game may check whether a newer set of puzzles is available and download it. That request sends no information about you beyond what any web request necessarily includes, such as your IP address, which we do not store or use to identify you. All puzzles needed to play are already included in the app, so the game works fully offline.
If we change what we collect, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If a change means collecting something materially different — for example if advertising is ever added — we will ask for your consent again rather than relying on the consent you gave for this version.
